About the winemaker

“In the Blaufänkisch grape one recognizes the hand of the master. This grape is a real diva in the vineyards: It buds very early in the year, but then ripens very late. As a farmer, you will therefore have to spend quite a bit of time in the vineyards; need to do a lot of pruning and a lot of prayers to stay free from diseases. In addition, it naturally has quite high acidity and firm tannins, which is a notoriously difficult balance for vintners to get just right.”

The Leithaberg wine region is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. It is located in Austria, west of Lake Neusiedlersee and on the Burgenland side of the Leitha Mountains, near the Hungarian border. Archaeological excavations show that wine growing here dates back to the 8th century BC. This makes it in any case the oldest part of the wine region in Central Europe. The combination of fossil limestone and slate in the soil of the vineyards on the Leithaberg produces elegant dry wines with refined minerality and a somewhat salty aftertaste. The climate is mainly determined by the warm wind from the Neusiedlersee and cool nights caused by the mountains, making the wines beautifully ripe and aromatic but always supported by lively acidity. Ideal for the local Neuburger grape, but the red Blaufränkisch grape also feels like a fish in water here.

Een heerlijk sappige wijn met krokant rood fruit, frisse mineralen en verse citrus. Lekker in balans, ideaal voor elke zomerse gelegenheid. Een echte aanrader voor de zonnige dagen!
