About the winemaker

"Matt worked as a winemaker in Australia's Barossa Valley and decided to travel to Portugal in search of a non-wine adventure. I was born and raised in Portugal’s Douro Valley and worked for several port houses. In 2007, we met each other, and in 2009, we founded Quinta de Pedra in the heart of the Douro Valley. With this, our dream—to make wine with friends in one of Europe’s finest wine regions—became a reality."

"Very fresh and citrusy with grapes, peach and cucumber notes, and simple honeyed sweetness balanced by lemon acidity."

"Smart modern packaging – frosted clear bottle and glass stopper. This is a distinctive white port: highly aromatic, with a range of aromas from citrus, to dried citrus peel, and a stony vanilla sweetness as well as freshly sawn wood. Fresh and lively on the palate, mostly cool, crisp citrus flavour as well as slightly ripe more tropical flavours and clementine. Fresh but quite gentle in terms of acidity and would need to be drunk well chilled to keep that freshness. Elegant and aromatic. I don't know how this will age – white ports can age brilliantly but this one is made to focus on the aroma, so perhaps better drunk in relative youth?"

The Douro Valley is renowned for its steep slopes and rocky soils. Many terraced vineyards are situated on these slopes. The valley’s climate is extreme, with hot summers and freezing winters. Around half of the vineyards in this region are dedicated to producing Portugal’s national pride: port. This fortified, sweet wine has become world-famous. The best port comes from grapes grown in the Cima Corgo subregion, which is also the case for this white port. White port is more vibrant and fresh than the red variant and combines honeyed aromas with zesty citrus notes. This makes it an excellent choice as an aperitif or in a cocktail.
