About the winemaker

“Our wine is a great example of a classic Bardolino. The unique microclimate on the eastern side of Lake Garda and the clay in the soil contribute to the incredible freshness in this wine. To preserve the freshness, this wine is aged only in stainless steel tanks. This allows the wine to be enjoyed throughout the evening, from aperitif to fish, light meat dishes, or, of course, pizza!”

Bardolino d.o.c. , Italy
On the east coast of Lake Garda lies the town of Bardolino, 25 km from Veneto. In the winter, it's not very crowded, with only 7,000 inhabitants. However, like the rest of the area, it is a tourist destination. Nevertheless, wine has been produced here for centuries. Remains of wine cultivation dating back to the Bronze Age, around 3000 to 800 BC, have been found here. The real cultivation began in the Middle Ages by monks. They mainly use the same grape varieties as in the rest of the Veneto region: Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. The style here is quite different, with a lighter style of wine due to the microclimate on the east coast and the soil composition. The name for this style only came about when the D.O.C. was established in 1968. Italians themselves see this wine as the ideal table wine, enjoyed leisurely throughout the entire evening.

Heerlijke soepele rode wijn! De fruitige smaak wordt nog verder versterkt door hem kort voor serveren in de koelkast te leggen. Wij dronken hem bij pasta negra met zeevruchten; een heel leuke combinatie!
