“In recent years we have invested heavily in the quality of our red wines, especially our local refosco grape. This has traditionally been planted here, but the farmers always focused on white wine. That's a shame, because the refosco is a fantastic grape and also limitless! It was already growing here in the vineyards long before this area became part of Italy. Friuli, Italy
Friuli is located in the northeast of Italy, at the border triangle of Italy, Slovenia and Austria. The grapes are planted on steep terrace vineyards, so they receive a large share of sun rays and ripen well. The characteristic pure freshness that many of the wines from Firuli have comes from cool influences from the Alps and the Gulf of Trieste. Grapes such as Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer and Riesling are often planted here, but native grapes such as Refosco are also popular. This grape is fully called refosco dal penduncolo rosso and was already planted in Roman times. Afterwards he fell into oblivion for a while, but fortunately now he is back in Friuli. The refosco produces wines with spiciness, a good dose of juicy fruit and a beautiful ruby red color.
