Peloponnesos, Greece
Moschofilero
Winegrower Leonidas is the master of the Moscofilero grape. This reddish typical Greek variety is aromatic in his hands, full of elderflower, complex and with an almost salty finish, a world-class dinner wine.

About the winemaker

“Although the Peloponnese region is full of moschofilero grapes, there is still a lot to discover for the rest of the world. This grape variety, like Pinot Grigio, has a slightly reddish skin. But unlike the world-famous Italian grape, moschofilero is very aromatic and full of flavor! In combination with the fresh sea winds, which are of course never far away on the Greek islands, super exciting, rich wines can be made. We have been convinced in Greece for a long time, now the rest of the world is convinced!”

Peloponnesos, Greece
The history of the Peloponnese and wine goes back a long way: Homer already described the peninsula in the 8th century BC as 'Ampeloessa', which is ancient Greek for 'full of vines'. Today it is still the largest wine region in Greece. The landscape is rolling and the subsoil consists of sand and clay. Approximately 2,500 hectares of moschofilero grapes are planted in the Peloponnese. This grape is sensitive to bad weather and therefore feels at home in the Greek warmth. It is a white grape with a reddish, not quite red, skin, which produces aromatic wines. The almost sacred belief of winegrower Leonidas in this grape variety has led to this grape being given a truly international stage for the first time.

We waren allemaal érg blij verrast. Fijne geur, lange afdronk en mooi in balans. Het is misschien wel mijn nieuwe favoriet...
