Winemaker Hamilton’s Intus is the perfect introduction to red amphora wines: full of aromas of dark fruit, spices, and chocolate, yet light-footed and mineral. Full of contrasts, but utterly irresistible.

About the winemaker

“In 2008, I decided to purchase a small estate at the foot of the Serra do Mundo mountains in the heart of Alentejo. We planted the vineyard ourselves, by hand, using typical Portuguese grape varieties. The wines are crafted in the cellar beneath our house using traditional Talhas, ancient Portuguese amphorae. This technique gives the wine its distinctive freshness, even in the hot Alentejo climate.”

90/100 - Jancis Robinson
Subtle cedary citrus. Creamy smell and texture from the lees; no oak influence. Utterly pure, like all the Natus wines. With a very fine grip to the texture. Refreshing and persistent. Excellent quality for ‘entry level'.

Alentejo, Portugal
In southern Portugal lies the wine region of Alentejo. Its hot climate poses a significant challenge for winemakers. Many choose to harvest early, but winemaker Hamilton took a more creative approach and found a completely different solution. Defying the sun, he planted his vines in a pergola system—a method typically used only in Portugal’s Vinho Verde region. This allows the wind to act as a natural “hairdryer,” blowing cool air between the vines. As a result, Hamilton’s vineyards are a few degrees cooler than others in the region.
