Marques de Tomares Rioja Crianza

Rioja, Spain
Graciano, Tempranillo
Classical Riojas always steal the show at the dinner table. Winemaker Isaac opts for 12 months of aging in oak barrels, so it pairs perfectly with rich sauces, red meat, and game dishes. Even a well-stuffed cheese board can't make him flinch!

About the winemaker

"Bodega Marqués de Tomares has been in my family for four generations. In 1910, my grandfather, Don Román Montaña, founded the winery. I always approach the vineyards with the same family philosophy: the wines should translate the unique terroir of the region. While it might be commercially attractive to produce wines with heavy oak aging, we choose to follow our own path. We don't make vanilla bombs that appeal to the masses but rather refined wines that undergo light, subtle oak aging.”

"Lekker jaar. Rioja als een volop glimmende rode biljartbal. Mooi opgepoetst fruit, rondingen, rijpe kersen en framboos, vanillezoet en met de nerf mee geschuurd eiken. Volop in de zonschijnwerpers en toch aangenaam fris afdrinkend."

Rioja, Spain
Rioja is located in the northern part of Spain and gets its name from the 'Rio Oja' river (a tributary of the Ebro). This region was the first to receive the DOCa status, the highest quality distinction for Spanish wine regions. The style of Rioja wines can vary widely. Everyone is familiar with the Reserva wines full of vanilla aromas. At Marqués de Tomares, they choose a lightly aged style of Rioja (Crianza) that spends only 12 months in oak barrels. This results in an elegant style where the pure fruit of graciano and tempranillo takes center stage, and you can savor the subtle aromas of vanilla.

Een modernere stijl Rioja dan ik gewend was, minder houtrijping en daardoor meer frisheid en fruit. Precies waar ik van hou

Mooie complete rioja. Eigenzinnig, maar toch heerlijk soepel.

Robijn rood. Volop vanille, leer en hout in de neus. Rond, soepel, kersen, mooie zachte tannines. Behoorlijk lange afdronk. Erg mooi!

Wij houden van zware wijnen maar deze valt ons eerlijk gezegd wat tegen. Hij is naar onze mening "te vlak". Deze wijn hebben wij niet in combinatie met een gerecht genuttigd.
