About the winemaker

"Olbieta reflects the characteristics and essence of Mediterranean wines. The vines are located at high altitudes and cut off from the coast. The influence of the soil and the Mediterranean climate create a complex and fresh wine."

Terra alta, Spain
Although a large wine region, this appellation is fairly unknown to most wine lovers. Yet wine has been made here for more than 1,000 years. Although it only got its own D.O. status in 1972. Terra Alta is the southernmost and, as the name suggests, highest D.O. area of Cataluña. The vineyards are on average 400 metres high on the plateau of the province of Tarragona. The beauty of nature was a source of inspiration for painter Picasso, who painted several landscapes and buildings here. The Abella family has been associated with viticulture since the 15th century and the first mention of it dates back to the Catalan census in the village of Correra in 1497. During the phylloxera pandemic in the 18th century, the family's vineyards were destroyed. This forced the family to move to Barcelona, but fortunately they did not sell the vineyards. It was eventually Ramon Marco Abella, who decided to restore the vineyard in the early 20th century. This proved to be a golden move, as these historic vineyards are still among the best in the entire region.

Ik doe het niet vaak, maar dit heb ik door de gootsteen gespoeld. Compleet uit balans, zuur en verder geen smaken
