About the winemaker

“I love the Ciliegiolo grape so much that I worked with the University of Milan to identify a total of 30 different clones of this variety. The best part is that all of these different clones were already present in my vineyards. This research inspired me to establish the 'Association of Ciliegiolo Producers of Narni.' Because only together can we put our local hero back on the world map.”

91/100 - James Suckling
Red cherries, rose hips, orange peel and tomato leaves on the nose. It’s crunchy and fresh with a medium body, tight tannins and tangy acidity. Lots of energy.

Umbrië, Italy
Umbria likely evokes images of authentic, untouched Italy for many—think of ancient towns like Perugia and Assisi, surrounded by a green, hilly landscape. It is the only wine region in Italy not located by the sea or a land border. The region somewhat lives in the shadow of neighboring Tuscany and Lazio. Yet, the history of winemaking in Umbria goes back thousands of years, with the Etruscans planting the first vines. The Ciliegiolo grape is the mother of the much more famous Sangiovese. The name means ‘little cherry’ in Italian and refers to the cherry-like aroma of the wines.
