Gerhard Deim Schonberg Riesling

Kamptal, Austria
Riesling
The Schönberg has been the Gerhard’s most beautiful vineyard for generations. The unique climate makes it warm during the day but very cold at night. The result? One of Austria’s most surprising Rieslings.

About the winemaker

“In the middle of Kamptal, in the village of Schönberg am Kamp, you will find our Weingut Gerhard Deim. It has had the same name for generations, since my grandfather and my father are also called Gerhard, just like me. With a name like that, I naturally had no choice but to join the family business. After internships all over the world, I am now ultimately responsible for the wines. Fortunately, the previous generations still help to make even better wines together.”

Kamptal, Austria
For centuries, wine has been produced in the Austrian wine region of Kamptal. Not surprising, because the valley lies to the west and east of the river Kamp and has ideal conditions for growing grapes. Although the region is mainly known for its Grüner Veltliners, a small part of Riesling is also planted. This grape, originally from Germany, shows itself from a completely different side here. In general, you could say that Austrian Rieslings are slightly less strict than those of the neighbours. Less full and softer acids. That does not make them less complex, because Austrian Rieslings are also fantastic wine/food wines.
