About the winemaker

“As winemaker of Cantina Frentana, in addition to making the wine, I am also responsible for preserving history and tradition. That sense of history is reflected in the choice of grapes we use. These are all indigenous varieties such as pecorino, montepulciano, cococciola and passerina. These grapes have been able to adapt to the climate for centuries and therefore thrive best in the vineyards of central Italy.”

Cantina Sociale Frentana was founded in 1958 as a collaboration between winegrowers. It was Francesco d’Agostino, the village doctor, who suggested that the farmers should work together. On his initiative, it was decided to work together, to help each other with working the land and selling the wine. This proved successful and soon more farmers joined this initiative. This group now has 98 winegrowers. Every farmer has 1 vote in the board, no matter how big or small. This means that all decisions are truly taken together.
