Fortissimo Alentejo Tinto

Alentejo, Portugal
Alicante bouschet, Petit verdot, Syrah, Touriga nacional
This Fortissimo is like Fado, the Portuguese melancholic music style. This wine has a warm melancholic character, it is dark in flavour and can suddenly come out energetic.

About the winemaker

"Portuguese wines used to have the image of being stern, heavy hitters with substantial tannins. I'm glad that we've made a significant leap in quality. I find it a challenge to work with various grape varieties. Each variety has unique characteristics that can complement each other perfectly. We've thoroughly analyzed our vineyards and replanted them with international and indigenous varieties suitable for the sunny climate but also resilient against the sea breeze. We also invest a lot of time in researching new varieties."

"Als je Fortissimo heet kun je niet met een slapperik op de proppen komen. Is dan ook niet het geval. Zoet, rijp, gul, sappig, breed uitgemeten, rood fruit, pepertje, chocolade, sweet spices, smeerbare tannines, pruimen, kersen op sap en neem zelf ook wat. Hoop wijn voor zo'n klein prijsje." The biggest risk to winemaking in Alentejo is the heat in July and August when temperatures can rise above 40 degrees Celsius. That's why winemakers have an arsenal of indigenous grape varieties at their disposal that can withstand this heat. The grapes used for this Fortissimo Tinto are Alicante Bouschet, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Touriga Nacional. It's a blend of national pride and international success stories with one common denominator: they thrive in the sun and provide dark and juicy flavors.

Kruidig, stroef. Geen doordrinker en geen solowijn.
