About the winemaker
“In the 14th century, the Romanes were known far beyond our own borders. Unfortunately, this changed under the military dictatorship. A mortal sin of course, because the terroir here is truly fantastic! In order to share this with the rest of the world, we decided not only to plant local grapes, but also international varieties. Because everyone knows these grapes, the terroir can make the difference”

Dealu mare, Roemenië
Davino's vineyards are located in the Romanian Dealu Mare region, about an hour and a half's drive from the capital Bucharest. In the middle of this region lies the village of Ceptura, which was already known for its wines in the fourteenth century. It is a hilly area with various microclimates and many hours of sunshine. Although ideal for wine growing, the communist regime focused on quantity rather than quality. Davino was founded here twenty years ago with the aim of reviving the famous wine growing traditions. To prove that the Romanian terroir is among the best in the world, Davino chose a mix of international and local grapes. For example, the Fetească Neagra is an old, typical Romanian grape variety that is known for its dark skin, soft tannins and smoky fruit aromas.
