About the winemaker

“My husband and I decided to restore a small, abandoned winery. While the historic cellar may have been centuries old, it looked as if nothing had been done to it since. But when we saw the vineyards, we were sold. After a thorough renovation and switching to organic farming, we can finally do what we came here for: making fantastic Barbera.”

For a long time, Barbera stood in the shadow of Nebbiolo and Barbaresco, the grapes behind famous wines like Barolo. Luckily, winemakers have discovered that when Barbera is carefully treated and yields are kept low, it produces beautifully soft, fruity wines with aromas of cherries, blackberries, licorice, and a hint of pepper. Because it contains less tannin than Nebbiolo, it is more approachable than Barolo. The good acidity also makes Barbera a great match for the sometimes heavy Northern Italian cuisine, making it a bit easier to digest.
