Verdejo
This is a verdejo with its heart (corazón = heart) in the right place. It roars (león = lion) of vibrant citrus fruit, yellow apples and ripe pears. This wine won't let you go.

About the winemaker

"The verdejo is a tricky grape. At least, it is always difficult to plan the harvest of these grapes. The juice of verdejo grapes oxidises quite quickly. We therefore harvest at night with low temperature and little light. The whole village will get up early to help us. As thanks, we always organise a big harvest festival to thank everyone for the little eyes and getting up early."
Juan de benito

Proefnotitie
"In the 11th century, they were already making wine from verdejo. Back then, the grape was not as popular as it is now. At that time the Rueda was known as 'Tierra de Nadie' (no man's land) and the verdejo was use to make sherry."

Tierra de castilla, Spain
The landscape in Castilla y León is not very exciting and is mainly characterised by undulating plateaus with lots of grain and the occasional flock of sheep. In contrast, the town of Rueda is far from boring and is known for its fruity wines. The verdejo grapes are picked at night when the temperature has dropped to 10 to 15 degrees. The lack of light means there is less chance of oxidation of the grape, so freshness is well preserved. Besides being fresh, verdejo's flavour is characterised by citrus fragrance and pear flavours, with a slightly bitter undertone.
