About the winemaker

"L'Azienda Agricola Citari was founded in 1975 by my grandfather Francesco Getulli. He passed on his love and enthusiasm to us. Our family estate is located on the hill of San Martino, where the famous tower San Martino della Battaglia rises above the vines. This tower is a tribute to the fierce battle fought during the Italian War of Independence in the 19th century. On a clear day, you can even admire it all the way from the famous Lake Garda. Should you visit Lake Garda in the future, you'll know exactly where to find our winery!"

Lugana, Italy
In the Lugana wine region, three factors are important for the quality of the wine: the unique clay soil, the relatively cool climate and the turbiana di lugana grape. The Lugana area lies right on the southern shores of Lake Garda. In winter, it welcomes the warming effects of this large lake and in summer the average temperature of the deep lake actually cools down due to meltwater from the mountains. Lugana is actually in two different provinces, Lombardy and Veneto. Wine regulations do not always coincide. However, many winemakers choose to follow their own rules and characterise their wines. They leave the bureaucracy and hassle to the Consorzio di Lugana (the region's interest group).
