Campuget 1753 Syrah Grenache

Costières de nîmes, France
Grenache, Syrah
Chateau de Campuget makes wine in the southernmost tip of the Rhône Valley. Due to the large amount of pebbles in the soil, the vines root deeply. This allows winemaker Franck-lin to make a firm red wine with lots of freshness.

About the winemaker

“Château de Campuget is located in the Manduel region, just 15 kilometers outside the city of Nîmes. Just after our era began, the Romans were already present there. 20 minutes from our Château Campuget you will find 'le pont du Gard', a Roman aqueduct. I have been there more than 100 times and yet I am always surprised by the beauty of this monument. 2000 years ago the Romans also brought vines to this region. I am proud to continue this ancient tradition of wine making. Many winegrowers are small family businesses that have been making wine for generations. Every family has its own terroir and every family has its own way of making wine. As a result, many different styles of wine come from the area, from fresh white wines to fuller red wines. One thing is certain: with the arrival of a new generation of winemakers, the Weinviertel is really an area to keep an eye on!”

Costières de nîmes, France
Costières de Nîmes, formerly known as Costières du Gard, is a special part of the Rhône. At the time that the Popes were based in Avignon, wines from this area were already very popular at the palace. However, Costières de Nîmes was still part of the Languedoc at the time. It even received AOC status there in 1986. However, the permitted grape varieties in combination with the typical terroir of the region, such as the Mediterranean climate and soil composition, ensured that the region decided to join the Rhône. This finally happened in 2004. Since then, the region has been on the rise again. Many producers now work sustainably and there is renewed investment in quality.
