About the winemaker
“In the shadow of the Sierra de Cantabria, between high limestone rocks, lies the village of Ábalos. If you reverse Ábalos, you get Solabal (plus the 'L' as the Spanish article). We started Bodega Solabal in 1988 and since then we have been trying to turn Rioja upside down. We break with the style of excessive maturation in American oak barrels and try to reflect the character of the terroir in our wines.”

Rioja, Spain
Rioja is located in the northern part of Spain and takes its name from the 'Rio Oja' (a tributary of the Ebro). This region was the first Spanish wine region to receive the highest DOC status. The Rioja is divided into three subzones. Rioja Alta is the coolest area; Rioja Alavesa is warmer. The location in relation to the sun is ideal there. Rioja Baja is the easternmost area and has a dry and warm climate. The village of Ábalos, where this Rioja Blanco comes from, is located exactly on the border of Rioja Alta and Alavesa.
