About the winemaker

“The Vinho Verde region can actually be divided into various sub-regions. Our winery is located in the Lima region, and what many people don't know is that there are also a lot of red grapes planted here. The local Vinhao grape thrives in this area's granite soil. With this grape, I create a red wine that will surprise you!"

“Very dark cherry red. A few bubbles of CO2 clinging to the glass. Vibrant sour black fruit, elderberry and hedgerow and tart black cherry. Creamy on the palate with marked acidity. Terrific intensity of flavour. Dense but smooth tannins. Open on the nose, more fruity, more approachable but deliciously Vinhão in its chewy, moreish singular style with intense freshness from start to finish. This is the more balanced wine and a less dramatic introduction to the variety. Well done.”

Vinho verde, Portugal
The Vinho Verde region, stretching from the Minho River in the north to Porto in the south, is Portugal's largest wine region. It's essentially a collection of various small sub-regions. Aphros is located in the Lima sub-region, which boasts a variety of microclimates. While there's a significant influence from the Atlantic Ocean, there are also more temperate areas higher up in the mountains. Although Lima traditionally features many red grape varieties, the loureiro grape is well represented here as well. It's in the areas where the ocean's influence is strongest that this grape variety truly shines. Aphros demonstrates that wines made from this grape aren't just suitable for casual sipping; they aim for a complex and layered expression.

Een mooie frisse wijn met toch ook een bepaalde diepgang. Ik proef kruisbessen, citrus en een vleugje aardbei. Deze wijn kan je bij kip maar ook bij vis serveren, of gewoon lekker als apperatief.
