About the winemaker

"I come from Serra d'Almos, a hamlet known for its excellent olive oil. When I took over my family estate, I quickly noticed that the grapevines were very old. Once I tasted the grapes, I realized that it would be a shame to replace them with olive trees. Now, I can proudly say that the rest of the village enjoys visiting me."

"Go and make olive oil, just like us. We've been doing it here for centuries," was the advice given to Xavi Cedó when he took charge of the family's land. "Certainly an option," he thought. However, his perspective changed when he saw ancient Carinyena vines growing on it, known elsewhere in Spain as Cariñena. Wine enthusiasts are grateful to him for that. Beautiful, tender Montsant. Full of blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, sweet licorice, spiciness, and a fine tannin structure.

It was part of the much larger region of Tarragona for a long time. It wasn't until the winemakers protested against this that it gained its own status in 2011. The vineyards in this area are located at high altitudes and are often planted on steep slopes to benefit from optimal sun exposure. The rocky subsoil contains a lot of limestone, which retains solar heat and reflects it back onto the grapes. This contributes to their proper ripening.
